Solo Exhibition - Missing Memories: Quilts in Clay

  • Clay Center of New Orleans 3928 Euphrosine Street New Orleans, LA, 70125 United States (map)

This exhibition is the culmination of years of work creating the process to transform my mother’s quilt design into clay. Included in the exhibit will be my mother’s original panels alongside my clay versions, a collection of my clay quilts of my own design, and a small selection of my utilitarian work.

This exploration of memory and craft developed from my early love of pattern, craft and fabrics introduced to me by my mother. She gave me a love for pattern, color and fine craft, teaching me to needlepoint and quilt. Inspired by the Cathedral Window quilt pattern which was a favorite of hers, the porcelain squares are textured and delicately folded to “quilt” the clay.  Working with the fragile porcelain squares woven with wire, suspended in a frame, or mounted on a slab brings a reminder that memories can be fragile and elusive but durable representations can be treasured.
